Ph.D. Holders anchoring Ruto’s Cabinet

Cabinet choices by any president shed the values he holds dear. By pursuing his Ph.D. while still serving as the deputy president, he demonstrated his passion for education. His choice of cabinet, therefore, was not going to ignore the need for higher education. Despite such murmurs as Mithika Linturi spending more time in court than in class to earn his degree, here are the Ph.D. holders who are going to anchor Dr. William Samoei Ruto’s administration for the next five years.

I choose to begin with the president because he will preside over the cabinet. Dr. William Samoei Ruto has demonstrated aggressiveness beyond politics, family, and business. Dr. Ruto started his education journey at Kerotet Primary School before transferring to Sambut Primary between 1974 and 1980. Dr. Ruto would then proceed to Wareng Secondary School in 1980, sitting for his ‘O’ Level exams in 1884. Dr. Ruto proceeded to Kapsabet Boys High School from 1985 to 1986. He then proceeded to the University of Nairobi between 1987 and 1990 when he graduated with Bachelor of Science in Botany and Zoology.

Dr. Ruto completed his Masters of Science in Plant Ecology in 2011 at the University of Nairobi and immediately enrolled for his Ph.D. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy or Ph.D. in Plant Ecology from University of Nairobi on 21st Dec. 2018. The title Dr. Ruto makes him the most formally educated president Kenya has ever had.

Prof. Sospeter Njuguna Ndung’u

Professor Njuguna Ndung’u comes from Kandara, Loco 3 and was born in 1960. He went to Kiguoya Primary School up to 1973. He was admitted to Kiambugi Secondary School between 1974 and 1977 for his O-Level. Prof. Njuguna studied at Kagumo High School from 1978 to 1979 for his A-Level. He proceeded to the University of Nairobi from 1980 to 1984 where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics and enrolled for his Masters immediately. He completed his Masters of Art in Economics from the University of Nairobi in 1986. Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u pursued his Doctor of Philosophy in Economics at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden in 1993.

Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u is an experienced technocrat, having risen through the ranks of treasury and its different associated institutions. Prof. Kithure Kindiki

Prof. Kithure Kindiki comes from a home with probably the largest concentration of professors. The Kindiki family has produced five professors with four others having completed their Masters and on the way to earn their Ph.D. Kithure Kindiki was born on 16th January 1972. Professor Kithure Kindiki attended Lenana School and later Tharaka Boys High School. He obtained an LL.B. from Moi University in 1998. Two years later, he completed his Masters of Laws at University of Pretoria, South Africa. Two years later in 2002, he earned his Ph.D. from University of Pretoria in South Africa.

Professor Kithure Kindiki taught law at Moi University before moving to University of Nairobi. He is an accomplished legal mind with experience in human rights and international law. He has been placed in a docket that is notorious for violating the same rights he has been defending all these years. It is up to him to live up to these principles.

Dr. Alfred Mutua

Dr. Alfred Mutua was born in Masii in 1970. He however attended school in Nairobi beginning at Guadalupe Church Nursery School before proceeding to Toi Primary School in Kibera and later Dagoreti High School for his O-Level. He would later join Jamhuri High School for his A-Level.

Dr. Mutua earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism at Whitsworth College in USA. He proceeded for his Masters at Eastern Washington University for Masters of Science in Communication. Later, Dr. Mutua would join University of Western Sydney in Australia for his Ph.D. He has been handed the visible Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a docket that he can handle effectively considering his vast experience outside the country.
